What does it cost to start playing golf in Puerto Rico?
00Resources
Probably less than you imagine. Here is what you actually have to pay for at the start, and what can wait.
Golf has a reputation for being expensive.
And it can be. You can spend thousands of dollars on clubs, memberships,
shoes, clothes, travel and technology.
But none of that is a requirement for finding out whether you like playing.
If you are starting out, there is an enormous difference between the cost of
trying golf and the cost of making golf your hobby.
Level 1: I just want to try it
Your first investment can be nothing more than a trip to the driving range.
If you can borrow a club, or the place rents them, you do not need to buy
equipment yet.
In Puerto Rico prices vary from facility to facility, which is why Cumbre
always recommends checking before you go.
Trying golf: the minimum way inIf you have never hit a ball, this is literally everything it takes to find out whether you like it.
Level 2: okay, I liked that
This is where you will probably want a few things of your own.
Worth it now

−Expensive golf bag
And playing a round?
This is where the price really varies.
A green fee is what you pay to play the course. Some courses include the golf
cart. Others charge for it separately. Prices also change with the day, the
time, and whether you are a resident.
For a concrete reference, Río Bayamón Golf Course — Bayamón's municipal
course — publishes its prices on its own site, with resident rates, a reduced
twilight rate and, most useful if you are just getting started, buckets of
balls for the driving range.

The Municipio de Bayamón publishes lower rates for this same course (resident $45, twilight $40). Both pages are official and they don't agree: the course's own page is the more recent one. Call the pro shop (787-740-1419) before counting on a price.Fuente: Río Bayamón Golf Course · Green Fees
Look at the gap between two of those lines: a full round costs $55, but a
bucket of balls costs $8. That is exactly the difference between trying golf
and playing golf.
One course does not define the whole island, and Cumbre will not publish
prices for other facilities until they have been verified one by one. Use it
as a reference point, not as the price of playing golf in Puerto Rico.
A smart way to start
01
First
Visit a driving range.
02
Then
Take a lesson, or go back and practise a few more times.
03
After that
Buy basic equipment once you know you want to keep going.
04
Finally
Play 9 holes, or look for a twilight rate.
That sequence lets you discover the sport without turning your curiosity into
a $1,500 purchase.
Where it is worth spending
If you are going to spend early, a good lesson can produce more value than a
new driver.
A good instructor can help you understand grip, stance and contact before you
turn bad habits into muscle memory.
And when you do eventually buy clubs, used does not mean bad. For a beginner,
a used set in good condition is far smarter than chasing the newest
technology.
You don't need to buy your identity as a golfer before you know whether you
like playing golf.

Start small.
The sport can grow with you.
Try it first. Then learn. Then decide how much you want to invest.
